I gave up coffee over ten years ago when it started to make me feel dehydrated. Apart from a few moments of weakness and in some cases, severe boredom I have pretty much remained coffee free. I tend to start my mornings with herbal tea of the Twinings variety so I was very grateful when a lovely PR sent me over a box of Ayurvedic Green Tea to sample. Ayurvedic originates from the ancient Indian Language of Sanskrit. Ayus means life and Veda means science. Ayurvedic herb and spice infusions was developed by leading food technologist Dr Ketan Josh and the remedy which is 500 years old uses nature to keep the individual’s body, mind and spirit in perfect balance. The range consists of four speciality herb and spice infusions called Up & Go, Calm & Relax, Slim & Fit and Young & Fun. The infusions are made from organic, handpicked herbs which have been sun-dried, cleaned, hand cut and then blended and packed locally in India.
Up & Go
This tea is made from herbs and spices such as Lemon Grass, Cinnamon, Wild Mint and Hibiscus Petal plus Green Tea. It has been developed to energise the body and boost the immune system.
Calm & Relax
This consists of a unique blend of herbs and spices which include Holy Basil, Fennel, Wild Mint, Neem and Alma Berry plus Green Tea. It is perfect for when you are feeling a little anxious or stressed, Calm & Relax helps to promote natural sleep and gently calms the nervous system.
Slim & Fit
Slim & Fit is based on a herbal mixture offered by a villager which includes the little known Garcinia which reduces appetite, and Caralluma which helps to burn fat and increase metabolism. It does this by helping to naturally suppress hunger, boost the metabolism and burn body fat, promoting healthy weight loss. It is made from a unique blend of herbs and spices such as Ginger, Lemon Grass, Garcinia, Caralluma, Nut Grass and Cinnamon plus Green Tea.
Young & Fun
Young & Fun infusion is packed full of antioxidants and is designed to aid memory and contribute to nerve and brain function. A unique mix of herbs and spices such as Lemon Grass, Liquorice, Holy Basil and Cardomom plus Green Tea, Young & Fun is based on a recipe created by a villager called Arkhan, whose tea left him feeling sharp and full of vigour.
I have worked my way through the whole range and I must admit that Ayurvedic is a pretty good way to kick off your morning. The herbs in the small bag just reeks of ridiculous health and they smell quite nice too. If you have a sweet tooth like me then it will take a while for you to adjust to the bitterness but if you are a Green Tea fan then you will be in heaven or somewhere close. The price at £7.99 a packet is a bit hefty but hey it is pure and healthy stuff and in an era that is full of food crisis after food crisis you can never be too frugal when it comes to what you put in your body.
All the ingredients used in the new teas follow strict Fair Trade principles and support small local farming families and communities.
The new range of Ayurvedic Green Tea Infusions are available online.
